About Orem
Orem, Utah was settled in 1919 as a farming community located at the base of Mount Timpanogos along the Wasatch Front. Its rural farm landscape has given way in the last half century to a bustling suburb attracting many young and growing families as well as a base for many high-tech companie such as WordPerfect and Novell. Much of the appeal of Orem is its family friendly atmosphere that promotes healthy outdoor activities. Rock Canyon campground, overlooking the beautiful Utah Valley, hosts many amenities for the camping enthusiast. When the mountain leaves turn to their autumn hues, a hike up Mt. Timp will bring calm to a weary mind. However, the more adventurous need not look any further for the areas mountain-biking trails, rock climbing and golf courses are sure to please. The recently built Orem Skatepark, a teenage favorite, is free and includes an eight stair set, rails and ledges for all skill levels. One of the most unique attractions in Orem is the SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre which holds many cultural concerts, musicals and outdoor movies. The Timpanogos Storytelling Festival, held each year at the end of August, is one of the nation's largest gatherings for the art of storytelling. If it is a more academic cultural setting that is desired, the UVSC Woodbury Art Museum is a must visit. Exhibitions, programs and collections focus on modern and contemporary artistic styles and provide a forum for dialogue, research and cultural awareness in the community.
